Dragon Farming
There are a total of 3 dragons in Guild Wars 2 out in the game world. None of these are the Elder Dragons which the personal story revolves around but are instead lieutenants. A fourth dragon, called Zhaitan is the only Elder Dragon you will ever encounter but as he is specifically linked to the story mode of Arah (one of Guild Wars 2's dungeons) it's not practical to farm him, as you can the lieutenants. The three lieutenants are known as: The Shatterer, Tequatl the Sunless and Claw of Jormag. They are all relatively similar in size but distinct in appearance and all spawn in unique locations around the world. It should be noted that killing a Dragon by yourself would be impossible and they require a significant amount of people to bring down. Thank fully they are incredibly popular events on all servers, so attract a huge number of people.
The ShattererThe Shatterer is a lieutenant of Kralkatorrik, the Elder Crystal Dragon. He can be found in Blazeridge Steppes (a level 40-50 zone) in the upper north, atop the dragon brand (the purple scar across the land). The Shatterer will descend onto Blazeridge Steppes once the meta event, Kralkatorrik's Legacy, has been completed up the stage 2. The event itself has a total of 3 stages:
At this stage the Shatterer will be right in front of you and can now be killed by all those in the area. I'd recommend you target his toe (as ridiculous as that sounds) as it will allow you to constantly strike him and thus obtain the highest contribution possible. The only attack you need to be wary of his when he flies off the ground mid way through the encounter. Retreating during this phase just for a few moments should see you unharmed and will allow you to continue attacking his toe (epic!) until he is dead.
Tequatl the SunlessTequatl the Sunless is a lieutenant of Zhaitan and an undead dragon. He can be found in Sparkfly Fen (a level 65 zone) next to the Splintered Coast. Unlike the Shatterer, there are no pre-events to bring Tequatl the Sunless down from the skies and instead, the moment the "timer" is up, he will descend.
Tequatl has various attacks that make the fight more difficult than the Shatterer:
Claw of JormagThe Claw of Jormag is a level 80 dragon which can be found Frostgorge Sound. There is a short travel from Earthshake Basin Waypoint to the area marked on the map below by the orange circle. Similarly to The Shatterer, the Claw of Jormag will appear with a two stage pre-event. The first stage of the pre-event is to destroy 4 large ice crystals surrounded by Icebrood, with the second stage to destroy a (a huge dragon ice crystal) in an effort to lure him out. When the Claw of Jormag appears, there are a further two stages to the encounter.
Stage one and two are:
Throughout the fight the Claw of Jormag will summon a wide variety of Icebrood to attack you, so be careful.
RewardsThe rewards for all dragons are the same:
